The recently launched “Asphalt Reinforcement Guideline” draft document is a national initiative, under the guidance of the Road Pavements Forum, to consolidate best practice in the design and use of asphalt reinforcement products in South Africa.

The first edition of Sabita’s Manual 19 ‘Guidelines for the design and construction of bitumen rubber asphalt wearing courses’ has been revised. This document was compiled to assist clients, consultants, paving contractors and asphalt manufacturers to design, manufacture, handle and construct bitumen rubber asphalt. The revised edition incorporates the latest specification requirements for bitumen rubber binder and the mix design criteria based on the latest best practice.

The purpose of this workshop will be to update local practitioners in the status of Warm Mix Asphalt technology in South Africa and the way forward.

This workshop offers an updated insight into the origins & uses of bitumen in South Africa. It is intended to demonstrate how different types of bitumen are refined, stored, handled & transported for the purposes of manufacturing road surfacing materials, in particular, hot mix asphalt. Aspects of safety & environmental responsibility will also be addressed.
